The Smiley Face Case The purpose of this web site is to serve as a resource to investigators for information about the suspected Smiley Face Murders. These deaths are sometimes also referred to as the I-94 murders because many of the cases happened close to Interstate 94. The basic profile of a Smiley Face Killer victim is a young white male who was last seen leaving a bar or party late at night and ends up missing or found dead in a body of water. Most often the victim is in his late teens or early 20's and is frequently a college student. There are some possible victims of other races and age ranges. Also, some victims had not been drinking. These deaths often appear to be accidents, which I believe is the intention of the killer(s). Local law enforcement, who investigate these deaths, are often unaware of similar deaths and patterns that happen in other jurisdictions. Due to this lack of information, these cases are usually treated as unsuspicious, and ruled as accidental. A number of patterns have been discovered that link these cases together, including a number of painted smiley faces located at death locations. Graffiti evidence is controversial because of the possibility of hoax or coincidence, but some patterns related to dates and locations, cannot be hoaxed. Who Is Mike Flaherty In May 2008, Mike Flaherty discovered graffiti in Duluth, Minnesota that appeared to be linked to the Smiley Face murder cases. After investigating the graffiti and other suspected Smiley Face cases, Flaherty realized that the patterns were too numerous to be a random coincident. Flaherty also discovered many new connections and patterns in the Smiley Face cases. These include: WORD PATTERNS - Flaherty discovered that the killers are cryptically spelling words like COP, NEMEC, PIRE, ARM, COLD and CAMP. These words have a special meaning to the cases. SMILEY FACE MAP PATTERN - Flaherty discovered that by connecting the Smiley Face victim locations, this creates a large smiley face over the United States. NEWSPAPER CONNECTIONS - Flaherty discovered that the killers are often leaving cryptic clues related to newspaper articles about other Smiley Face victims. ZODIAC COPYCAT - Flaherty discovered that the Smiley Face killers appear to be copying the Zodiac Killer as well as other famous criminals.
